Hello -- I am New!

Hey, I am Katrice Thomas a 21st Century Skills Facilitator in Stanly County. I am assigned to East Albemarle School where we have a 1 to 1 laptop program going. All of our 4th and 5th grade students have laptops they carry throughout the day. Otherwise, our Kindergarten through 3 all have laptops carts they pull from for centers or whole class activities. My primary position is to integrate technology and co-teach with the teacher. While this is my 6th year teaching, Stanly County Schools has just now gotten us the flexible schedule we needed to do this. This year was the first year and it has gone great. I am always looking for new resources and I love to share so I am excited about being a part of the DEN.

Welcome to the DEN...sounds like you are going to fit right in with the "crew."  This is a wonderful place to learn and share ideas about technology integration.  I hope you find what you are looking for with us!Teryl, TN DEN LC--Chair

Wow! I am so envious of you with the technology available to your school. We have to take turns with the four computers between 29 kids! Every once in a while, we get the computer lab or computer cart, but not as often as I like. We use a lot of computer programs (especially love United Streaming) as a whole-group activity with the computer being displayed on an overhead and/or SmartBoard.

Technology is limited at my school as well. Have you every seen any of Tom Snyder's programs for the One Computer Classroom. The company was bought by Scholastic, I think, but you can still access the stuff via the web site at http://www.tomsnyder.com/ . I use the Prime Time Math stuff and FASTT Math programs as well as some of the science stuff. They are great for classes with limited technology and for getting the students used to working in groups.
